Chelsea

The Blog

Thank you everyone for reading The Athlete’s Plate!  I started blog in July of 2008 after months of drooling over food blogs like Kath Eats and Suite Apple Pie.  I had always thought it would be neat to have a blog as a way to express my feelings and thoughts.  Then, after  I saw all of these wonderful food blogs, I decided that instead of just a private online diary, I was going to post about my love for food and passion for a healthy lifestyle!  I have always loved to cook and if I say so myself, I am quite the gourmet chef for the thirteen year old form Western North Carolina.  I have no idea where the food blogging industry will take me, but I hope to one day be well known. I started out with only two loyal readers, my dad and my best friend Ashley.  Slowly but surely, this crowd is beginning to expand!  One of my goals is to eventually have my own domain.  I love writing and posting up my food, workouts, and life adventures. I hope ya’ll can in some way benefit from my blog.  Read and enjoy!

Things Ya’ Ought To Know About Me:

  • My name is Chelsea, of course.  I live in a very small, southern town in the foot hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina.   I absolutely love the Appalachians, and they’re know other place in the world I would rather live.  (Ok, maybe Italy)
  • I play softball and basketball for my Jr. High school, and I also play softball on a traveling softball team.  I am a baseball addict.  Ask me anything, anything about baseball and I’ll have an answer.  I pull for the BOSTON RED SOX and the ATLANTA BRAVES! I am also a college basketball addict.  GO DUKE!!!  The mere thought of the Yankees and Carolina makes me want to vomit!
  • I aspire to be a professional softball player as a career.  I’m really not meaning to brag or anything, but I seriously do have the talent to do it and if that’s what I really want to do, my coaches and my father both say that I have a good shot at making that dream come true.  Of course, we all have to have a fallback, and I am definitely going to college, so I have decided that I want to become an orthopedic surgeon.  I want to go to a school with a great athletics program so maybe Duke, UCLA, Tennessee, but I should probably shoot for something a little less pricy and near to home like Appalachian.
  • I come from a long line of southern cooks, and it is up to me to keep the culinary tradition going.  Neither of my parents, aunts, or uncles cook at all, so my Nanaw started passing her knowledge down to me. I originally started cooking the southern classics with he. Corn bread, fried chicken, biscuits, chicken grease gravy, pinto beans, etc.  The first thing I ever made by myself was her awesome corn bread when I was nine.  I’ve been obsessed with cooking ever since.
  •   I solely believe in eating whole foods.  No processed junk with trans fat, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, or preservatives.  I want to fuel my body with the best things that I possibly can.  It keeps me going, for which I owe it.
